Entries to the 2017 Canon Media Awards are at a record high, drawing a massive 2174 entries this year.
Awards director Jane Phare said the increase – 35% up on last year’s 1600 entries – showed journalism, in all its rapidly-changing forms, was thriving in New Zealand.
Judging is now underway by 57 high-calibre judges – from New Zealand, Australia, UK and the US – who are assessing thousands of individual pieces of work. A list of finalists will be released in early April.
The judges bring a wealth of experience to the awards and include former editors, journalists, photographers, designers and commentators. The full list of judges and their bios can be seen on www.canonmediaawards.co.nz/2017-judges. Our judges spend weeks viewing the Canon entries in their own time and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank them for taking on this important task.
The awards, staged by the Newspaper Publishers’ Association, will culminate in a gala dinner on Friday, May 19, at The Langham in Auckland. Tickets can be purchased for $170 (including gst) online at www.canonmediaawards.co.nz/awards/tickets.
